My project for the IRIS National Fair came from a concern about the surge in biomedical waste following the COVID-19 pandemic. The rising demand for safer and non-contact disposal methods inspired me to explore innovative solutions to tackle this issue. My group and I collaborated on ‘DISPOSIO’–an automated truck desiged to treat biomedical waste along its disposal route.
Disposio uses the concept of acid-base indicators to segregate different types of garbage. Moreover, to streamline the disposal process, it allows for the direct transfer of waste from the hospital waste collection room. It also utilizes directions from the Centre for Accreditation of Health and Social Care (CAHSC) to help transport this waste from the waste room to the truck without human contact.
